My research shows Vol. 4 (2C 062-80103; Vilayat Khan, ragas ahir bhairav and khammaj zhumriand) and Vol. 6 (2C 062-80106; Shivkumar Sharma, ragas lalat bhairavi and kalavati).

I own Indian pressings of Vol. 2 (EALP 1259) and Vol. 5 (EALP 1291), and the French reissues are in sensational stereo vs. muffled mono, and the surfaces are totally quiet (FWIW, I bought my Indian pressings new, and the French releases sound unplayed). The other two French releases are equally sensational sound wise.

FWIW, I see no dates on either the jackets or records themselves of the French EMI pressings.

I can find no listings for other volumes in this series. Needless to say, I will be looking for the two volumes I am missing, but with little hope of finding them in such good condition.Rasika Michaelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15239426140652995367noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1698420340788655210.post-43291210119570588562011-08-13T15:19:54.608+02:002011-08-13T15:19:54.608+02:00what a wonderful musical blog. I am big fan of Indian Classics.... since 03/2006 I produce a radio show for ICM - http://www.imcradio.net/archives .

... have presented the Dagar brothers in my shows, e.g. Raga CDs of the Months (12/10): Studies in Indian Classical Music (part 1) - http://bit.ly/hIdvil

We all are mourning about the demise of great Ustad Rahim Fahimuddin Khan, who left us on 27th July... I decided to present a tribute show with hommage to this wise man in music - http://bit.ly/oqAuvW

If you have some recordings, feel free to send me directly. As we broadcast as "public radio" under the tutulage of Federal State government media law, and my shows are non-commercial ( www.imcradio.net/about ) and we pay annual royality fees regulalry, I can present every kind of recording :-)

Since May my shows are re-broadcasted in Switzerland ( http://bit.ly/iFO5Kx ) and since August regularly "onair" in Austria, too - http://bit.ly/nFoDxb . All shows of the last 5 years will come "onair" there... the shows can be re-listened as I store them in the "Virtual University library": http://ia.india-meets-classic.net and all scripts can be re-read, too ( http://www.imcradio.net/scripts ).

So fare giving you orientation about my passion/obsession for Indian Classics...

Hope we can keep in touch. The only other volume I know and have is the volume 3: Vilayat Khan - Raga Barawa, Raga Shankara & Dhun in Gara. The series was perhaps a similar attempt as the UK EMI "Music from India Series" which had over 10 volumes, but the titles are different ones.
Greetingstawfiqhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04366277485449900975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1698420340788655210.post-19653096612850842542011-06-08T19:24:51.325+02:002011-06-08T19:24:51.325+02:00Tawfiq,

No year given. This solves probably the question about a perfect copy, as it does not have the "surface noice" so typical of Indian pressings. I have this LP and will share it with you as soon as I have some more time (in july insha'allah).
Best greetings
Tawfiqtawfiqhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04366277485449900975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1698420340788655210.post-21616953198689516372011-06-08T17:15:45.332+02:002011-06-08T17:15:45.332+02:00the "King of Ragas", so why mess around ...the "King of Ragas", so why mess around with very much else, right?
