Valyapatti A.R. Subrahmanyam, Thavil

To somewhat alleviate the flagrant lack of Nagaswaram music posted on this blog I feel obliged to post another great record by The Madurai Brothers. There is also some miraculous Thavil to be heard here by the master drummer Valyapatti A.R. Subrahmanyam.

Great Nadhaswaram music. This instrument (and the thavil drum) are possibly the best musical discoveries of my recent life.

Thank you for showing me to it, bolingo!

Happy to hear that Alexis, Nagaswaram and Carnatic music in general holds an undisputed position as "family medicine" agains most ailments. Always putting me in a better mood whatever the problems...

Another super one, bolingo! This one we've had on cassette since the 80s, and even found an LP recently, but its most likely not in such a good condition.

Thanks a lot! :)

I'm new to this blog, and while I like music from India, I don't know nearly as much about it as I should. I'd never heard the thavil before; when I think of Indian percussion, tabla usually comes to mind. Many thanks.
