We are making some progress on the Bärenreiters and I am happy to announce the gradual approach of another of the great anthologies that Bärenreiter published namely this one listed above. Again you are most welcome to help out with publishing dates and we already got some good help on the South East Asian Anthology. Of the ones listed above I have now have all of them except one, in various stages of completion as far as editing goes. The one I still miss is the "BM 30 L 2310 Central African Republic" and maybe someone out of the steadily increasing number of potential Luobaniyans can supply us with a copy or a rip. I will start posting them in my own particular order that is neither chronological nor by preference but by what I call "sudden enlightenment". You'll see, maybe!

So on with the posts! This is the first LP I post from this box of six LP's, and the other five will follow in the coming days. Any more information that I manage to find out about these concerts I will add to the discographic post here. There was a previous record posted from the third festival held in 1972 here, and I will also, when I have all the photos ready, post three more LP's from that festival! I will also try to update the discographic record to list the contents of all records for all the festivals but this I do not think I can do without your helping guidance! So please join this quest to finally have some order in this world at least for North Africa... Hmm, maybe too big, how about at least as far as this festival is concerned... Is that too much to ask?

Listed above are the matrix numbers as they read in the black vinyl surrounding the labels, there are no catalogue numbers or other distinguishing number than the disque 1, etc.. printed on the label and the circled number 1-6 on the sleeves.

The LP-box pictured above contains six LP's that is half of the LP's issued from the concerts held at the festival, anyone holding volume 2 [7-12] is hereby most encouraged to step forward and share with us this assumedly equally precious collection of Arabo-Andalusian music.  I will in the following days posts all the above listed LP's as individual posts and this post contains only the discographic information.

Indeed any other discographic info concerning the documentation of this festival or any of the others (see this post for one of the records from the third festival held in 1972) are most welcome. I owe this information as well as the opportunity to digitise and document these records to my good friend "The Mine of Vinyl". He is a veritable "Saluki hound" for finding rare and obsolete vinyl. I am sure, as the saluki is considered clean, also according to Islamic faith, that there is no coincidence that it was he, who found this precious box of Arabo-Andalusian gems in a thrift shop run by the local Salvation Army here. In itself a good story of record hunting. Thank you once again my noble "Saluki Vinyl Hound"...

Thanks for the kind help extended by "whiteink" that now allows us also to know what the first four volumes were. Those I have no copy of, but if someone has them and could supply digital likeness of the audio and photos of the sleeves and labels and accompanying booklets ;-)
I am sure that all Luobaniyans would be overjoyed. I had checked the museum homepages but failed finding the RMCA series. I would be very happy if someone still has more information about any other series like the Alpha Label. But I have not even looked carefully at the Museum homepage yet, so maybe they are right under my nose. I'll let you know. But if you know if there were any publications on LP or cassette either in other own produced series or a continuation on the Alpha label or other label of African field recordings you'll let us know right!

All the volumes listed above (minus the first four!) will be posted here as soon as I find time! Most are almost ready and the vol 1-3 of Rwanda will soon start appearing here. But the volumes 6-11 all include a 50 - 80 pages book with the "liner notes" (actually more like field research reports) in french, flemish german and english and they take considerably longer time to edit. If you can contribute any other recordings from this series and that are not listed here please let me know and I will post them here with your kind help. Or you make them available somewhere we can reach them!

My good friend the critic over at Panchamkauns, has kindly checked on what CD's one can find certain tracks from all of those hard to obtain LP's just posted here with songs of Bhimsen Joshi, and made a concordance in the shape of a diagram showing all the tracks known to be reissued, and on what CD they have ended up.

Here is another label that I will start posting titles from. I will eventually post all of them but in the initial stage I have only made ready the series Musical Instruments 1-7.

The 10 titles I know of were produced in the United States as a selection from the magnum opus of Hugh Tracey and also edited by him.

To complicate matters further there are these volumes on various labels numbered and named differently. I will go into more detail on that in a while.

The Kaleidophone LP's were compiled from an allegedly 118 LP's series that appeared over the years from the forties, either on Decca or Gallotone, or both of them. Maybe they started on Decca and continued on Gallotone, and there were different numbered sseries. I am not sure! If anyone has more specific details please share them with us!
